Goa Airport was built by the Government of Estado da india Portuguesa in the year 1950. In those days, Portuguese ruled enclaves in Goa. It was in the year 1962, when the airport got occupied by the Indian Navy’s air wing. The Airport is spread across an area of 688 hectares (1,700 acres). Airports Authority of India operates two terminal buildings of the Goa Airport. Domestic terminal was the first to be built in 1983. Other international terminal was built in the year 1996. After constructing these two terminals, there was enough space for parking and other services.
Every week, you can witness the Military flight training being carried out at the Airport. This continues for 5 days in a week. At the time of the training, civilian flights are disallowed to operate from the airport, but the International Flights are sometimes allowed. The time block for the training is generally up to 15% of the total time.
Many airlines come and go from this airport. The domestic terminal of Goa Airport can handle up to 350 arrivals and departures at a time. The other international terminal handles around 250 arrivals and departures. Presently, the airport caters to 30-40 flights on regular basis. Plans are being initiated to upgrade the Airport. Expected renovations include a new international passenger terminal and more aircraft stands.
Domestic Airlines served at Terminal 1 include: GoAir, Indian Airlines, IndiGo Airlines, Jet Airways, JetLite, Kingfisher Airlines, MDLR Airlines (Delhi), Paramount Airways, SpiceJet, Terminal 2,Air Arabia, Condor Airlines, Indian Airlines, Monarch Airlines, Novair, Qatar Airways, Thomas Cook Airlines, and Thomson Airways.

Goa Airport is situated in the
Dabolim village in Vasco Da Gama city, South Goa. Panaji, the capital of Goa is located at a distance of 30 km from the airport.
How to Reach Goa Airport
You can reach Goa Airport by hiring taxis, local transport buses, trains or private cars. This is a very busy airport so it is advised that you arrive at the international airport 3 hours before the flight timings and domestic terminal 2 hours before flight timings to complete all formalities in time.
