The unique designing of the Vadodara Airport makes it look special from other airports. Recent renovation plan include giving the airport a glamorous look. The due integrated terminal building of the airport will have an area of 18,120 square meters. The Frederic Schwartz Architects, that designed the new Vadodara airport building, says on their website, “The New Integrated Terminal at Vadodara Airport will be an iconic and sleek contemporary structure featuring an arching, sweeping roof that spans the entire length of the terminal”.
The structure is expected to be made of glass and steel only (no brick will be used anywhere). The new building will feature all modern facilities for the passengers. This include central air conditioning system, inline X-ray baggage inspection system integrated with baggage conveyor system, check in counters with common use terminal equipment, escalators, CCTV for surveillance, public address system, flight information display system and car parking.
The airport falls under the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and is well connected to all the major cities of the country, including Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Located at an elevation of 127 feet, Vadodara Airport boasts of 8,100 ft long runway, coupled with asphalt surface.
The new terminal of the Vadodara Airport is getting a new look and the construction work has already started. The new airport will have the capacity to handle over 700 passengers on per hour basis. The plans are also going on to open a cargo terminal, although the airport currently doesn’t handle cargo.
