Tourist/Visitor
Each person applying must have a valid passport. A completed and signed application is required (photocopied forms are acceptable). A separate form is required for accompanying family members over 18 years of age, except for spouses. Applications should be accompanied by: 3 recent passport-size photographs, confirmed return/onward air ticket if available, a letter of invitation from relatives/ friends in Canada, proof of your sponsor?s immigration status and income, leave letter from your employer, proof of sufficient funds (in form of a bank statement, pay slips, proof of employment, travellers cheques/ FE endorsement on passport) to cover the period of stay in Canada. Failure to provide sufficient documentation may result in refusal or delays in processing. A medical examination is required for visits exceeding 6 months. A multiple entry visa allows you to enter Canada from any country as often as you wish during the validity of the visa. A single entry visa allows you to enter Canada once. However this visa may also be used for multiple entries from the USA. Such entries must occur within the time allowed for your stay in Canada. Applicants should not assume that paying for a multiple entry visa will guarantee issuance of a long term visa. The Canadian High Commission can choose to issue limited validity short term multiple entry visa if circumstances appear to warrant it. The Canadian High Commission will not issue a Visitor visa valid for longer than the validity of an applicant?s passport.

Transit
A transit visa is required for travel through Canada to another country, by nationals of countries who require a visitors visa, and who will be in Canada for less than 48 hours. to obtain a transit visa you must provide specific evidence of your travel arrangements from your transportation company or travel agent. you will be asked to show your travel ticket as evidence of travel arrangements to obtain a transit visa. There is no charge for processing a transit visa.

Student
All persons who wish to study in Canada must apply for a student authorization, visa and obtain the written approval of a visa officer. A student authorization is a form issued by an Immigration officer. It allows admittance to remain in Canada to follow an academic, professional or vocational training course at an approved university, college or other institution. Student must satisfy the visa officer that he/ she meets the requirements of the Canadian Immigration Act and Regulations and that he/she will be in Canada for a temporary stay. A student applicant must satisfy a visa officer that he/she:
* Intends to return to India
* Has been unconditionally accepted by an approved educational institution.
* Has sufficient funds for tuition fee, living expenses for him/herself and accompanying dependents while in Canada and return transportation .
* Is law abiding and has no record of criminal activity (he may be asked to provide a Police Clearance Certificate).
* Is not a risk to the security of Canada.
* Is not medically inadmissible to Canada (medical examination will be required for the student applicant and all accompanying family members in most cases)
A student authorization is not required if the course is
* An English or French language course that lasts a maximum of 3 months
* Not academic, professional or vocational, for example
* Self-improvement, general interest courses such as arts and crafts * A day care or nursery school program which is not a compulsory part of the elementary school system.

1. The basic requirements for student applicant are the same as those for visitor visa applicants. Additional documents required are:
Proof of unconditional acceptance for attendance at a university, college or technical institution indicating
- The name of the institution
- Confirmation of acceptance and/ or registration as a student
- The course of study
- The duration of the academic program, and
- The latest date of registration.
For attendance at a primary or secondary school, a letter from the school board having jurisdiction for the school he has been attending (or for private schools, a letter from the school itself), indicating:
- The name of the school
- The level of study, and
- The duration of the course. For attendance at an educational institution in the province of Quebec, the student will also require a ?Certificat d?acceptation du Quebec? (Quebec Certificate of Acceptance, or CAQ) issued by the Ministre des Affaires Internationales, de l?Immigration et des Communautes culturelles du Quebec (MAIICCQ).

3. Proof of sufficient funds for the proposed course of study
Evidence that he can support himself and his accompanying dependents while he studies in Canada. Such evidence may include:
* Proof of a Canadian bank account in his name if money has been transferred to Canada .
* His bank statements for the past 4 months
* A bank draft in convertible currency Proof of payment of tuition and residence fees for those receiving a scholarship or those participating in a Canadian- funded educational program, proof of funding from the issuing institute in Canada if foreign exchange control measures exist in his country, he must provide proof that he will be permitted by the exchange control authorities of his country to export funds for all his expenses and spouse and dependent children may accompany the student to Canada. They may either accompany to Canada or join at a later date. A spouse and dependents must meet all the requirements for visitors to Canada. They may be required to provide evidence that they are law abiding and have no criminal record and undergo medical examination to obtain a visitor visa.
If dependents intend to accompany the student, they must be included in the application of the student by providing their names and other information in the appropriate space on the application form. Students are required to provide a marriage certificate and birth certificates for any accompanying dependents. If they wish to follow at a later date, they must make separate applications for admission.
Students are generally prohibited from working while studying in Canada; however, there are some exceptions for full-time students at post-secondary institutions who may obtain employment authorizations. The exceptions are:
* Where the intended employment is an essential and integral part of the course of study (this does not apply to accounting students, medical interns or medical residents).
* Where the intended employment is related to an approved research or training program.
* Where the employment is on campus at a community college or university where the student is registered as a full-time student, and
* Where the student has successfully completed a community college or university program in Canada and wishes to work for a maximum period of one year in employment related to the course of study.
Canadian Education Centre:
Additional information regarding studying in Canada is available from the Canadian Education Centre (CEC). The CEC service is a source of information pertaining to the educational system in Canada and specific requirements of educational institutes in Canada. The CEC organizes Canadian Education Fairs each year, where representatives of Canadian universities and colleges are present to provide general and registration advice. Seamen
Visa is not required. Indian seamen travelling on duty must hold Letter of Guarantee from the shipping company giving particulars of the seamen, date and port of joining the ship. Must hold passport and seamen book. It is mandatory that seamen must be met by the shipping agent on arrival.

The applicant should have a passport valid for at least 6 months; one visa form (photocopy allowed); one recent passport-size photograph; confirmed onward/ return air ticket; foreign exchange endorsement on the passport and a covering letter from applicant giving his/her personal status and job held is mandatory. This should be addressed to the visa officer with period of stay required. Visa is valid for 3 months Single entry, with a maximum stay of 30 days. For visiting relatives an invitation from their relative or friends in China is required. Processing time is 4 working days.

Business
Documentation is as above. Additional requirements are: a covering letter from the applicant?s company requesting for visa and a letter of Invitation from the company in China. Applicants with Original Visa Notification letter from Provincial Authorities in China, namely Foreign Affairs Office, Foreign Economic Relation and Trade Commission, with a multiple entry visa notification can apply for multiple entry visa also. Visa fee and processing time as above

Transit
Documentation is same as Tourist. Validity of visa is for three months with stay of 7 days. This can be for single or double entry in accordance with the confirmed ticket and visa for onward destinations. Fee and processing time are same as for Tourist visa.

Seamen
Visa is required. Indian seamen travelling on duty must hold Letter of Guarantee from the shipping company with seamen book. A letter from the shipping agent giving particulars of the seamen, date and port of joining the ship and a fax/ telex from the shipping agent in China are required. Visa validity is for 3 months, with a maximum stay of 7 days.

Work
Visa is issued. The applicant should have a covering letter Visa is issued. The student should hold student visa application form issued by the Ministry of Education in China; Admission Notice from the University and a covering letter from the applicant
