American Airlines
American Airlines is the major airline of the United States. It is famous for being the second largest airline in terms of its passenger miles transported, passenger fleet size, and operating revenues. Also known as AA, American Airlines is a subsidiary of the AMR Corporation. It operates its scheduled flights throughout Latin America, North America, India, Asia Pacific, and the Caribbean.The airline is known for carrying more passengers between the US and Latin America than any other airline. There are four hubs for the airline known as Chicago (ORD), Miami (MIA), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and New York (JFK). Among these, the largest is the Dallas/Fort Worth, from where the airline operates its flights to more destinations than from its other hubs. It presently controls maintenance bases at Tulsa, Kansas City, and Fort Worth Alliance.
American Airlines has two regional affiliates called American Eagle Airlines and Chautauqua Airlines. Out of these, American Airlines has its hub at Chicago O'Hare, Dallas Ft Worth, New York LaGuardia, Los Angeles, Miami and San Juan. And thus it provides regional feed to American throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Canada, and Mexico. The other affiliate, Chautauqua Airlines operates as AmericanConnection and feeds American flights from its Chicago O'Hare Hub.
The history of AA is very interesting. The airline was developed from the conglomeration of 82 small airlines. The flight operator was earlier a common brand by a number of independent carriers.
American Airlines fleet: Fleet of American Airlines consists of Aircrafts like Boeing 737-800, Boeing 757-200, Boeing 767-200ER, Boeing 767-300ER, McDonnell Douglas MD-82 and McDonnell Douglas MD-83. When analyzed in the year 2009, the American Airlines had an average fleet age of 15.3 years. The fleet contains a total number of 613 aircrafts.
American Airlines Destinations: The airline serves its flights to 81 domestic destinations and 76 international destinations situated in 46 countries. These destinations also include places like British overseas territories and Kingdom of the Netherlands. Major places to which the airline caters its services are: China, Japan, India, Europe, and Americas.
