Biman Bangladesh Airlines

Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the national airline of Bangladesh. The airline is completely owned by the Government of the country. Major hub of this airline is located at Zia International Airport in Dhaka. Biman Bangladesh Airlines offers domestic services as well as international flights to Asia and Europe.

The airline is a member of IATA and came into existence on January 04, 1972, under the Bangladesh Biman ordinance.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines was called Air Bangladesh International in the beginning. The airline launched its domestic services within one month of its commencement, in 1972. The early domestic services were on the Dhaka–Chittagong, Dhaka–Jessore and Dhaka–Sylhet routes.

The airline launched its international operations soon, by plying once-a-week flights to London. In 1977, the airline came under the possession of Bangladesh Government and thus, it was altered into a public sector corporation, governed by a Board of Directors, which was agreed by the Government of the country.

Biman Bangladesh Fleet:
Biman Bangladesh Airlines maintains a fleet of 9 aircraft, including Airbus A310-300, Fokker F28 Mk4000 and McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30.

Biman Bangladesh Destinations: At present, the airline connects to numerous destinations in Middle East, East Asia (Hong Kong), South Asia (including Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan) and Southwest Asian countries of the world. Besides, the airline connects to Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. As far as Europe is concerned it serves only two destinations - Rome and London. Biman Bangladesh Airlines presently flies to Kolkata in India. Moreover, the airline plies special flights to Makkah Al Mukarramah, during the annual Islamic pilgrimage for Hajj.
