Cathay Pacific Airways is an international airline based in Hong Kong. It offers planned cargo and passenger services to over 90 destinations around the world. It was started by American Roy C Farrell and Australian Sydney H de Kantzow in Hong Kong, on September 24, 1946. Initially the airline was based in Shanghai however now it is shifted to its present location - Hong Kong.

Cathay Pacific Airways is one out of the six airlines in the world, to hold a five-star rating from Skytrax, which is a United Kingdom-based consultancy.

Cathay Pacific Airways in the beginning served Manila, Bangkok, Singapore and Shanghai. The airline started its operations with a single Douglas DC-3, popularly known as Betsy.

During the first few years after its commencement, Cathay Pacific Airways served its flights between Hong Kong, Sydney, Manila, Singapore, Shanghai and Canton. However, the scheduled flights service was confined to Bangkok, Manila and Singapore.

Cathay Pacific's in-flight entertainment system is equipped with personal TVs in every seat; offers the latest Hollywood blockbuster movies, popular Asian and Western TV programs, music and games. Besides, the airline provides a range different newspapers and magazines from around the world, including the airline's award-winning in-flight magazine Discovery.

Technology
Cathay Pacific commenced more techniques to register for flights such as self-check in utilizing a kiosk at Hong Kong International Airport and selecting destinations globally or another checking in via a mobile phone.

Cathay Pacific Airways maintains a fleet consisting 98 aircrafts, which includes Airbus A330-300, Airbus A340-300, Boeing 777-200, Boeing 777-300, Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 747-400.

Cathay Pacific Destinations:
The passenger aircrafts of Cathay Pacific serve 46 destinations internationally, while its Cargo service is confined to 58 destinations. Both passenger and cargo aircraft fly through 29 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, North America and Oceania. In India, Cathay Pacific Airways connects to Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.
