Tiger Airways was incorporated on 12th December 2003. It prevailed over initial hiccups to register a sudden rise in business by 2006. Tiger Airways took over the root and started flights to Macau from March 2005 onwards, when all the other flights to Macau were ended by the end of 2004. When, another air service of Singapore, Silk Air ,stopped plying flights to the town, as an outcome of 2004 Indian ocean earthquake, the airline also resumed services to Krabi in 2005. By September 2005, the airline has carried 500,000 passengers aboard its planes.
In February 2006, Tiger Airways turned out to be the first cost-effective airline of Singapore to attain working permits from Chinese aviation authorities, to fly to the southern cities of Haikou, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Actually, it augmented more flights to Haikou and Guangzhou in the first three months only; following an expansion in travel to these destinations. In March 2007, it began services from Singapore to Perth and joined an association with South East Asian Airlines, the next year. The airline is now expecting for a larger fleet and increase in air routes to its existing account.
Tiger Airways Fleet:
Tiger Airways is completely owned by Tiger Aviation, which is a holding company that was set up in 2007, for the purpose of managing both Tiger Airways and its start-up Australian subsidiary - Tiger Airways Australia. Presently, it maintains a fleet of 10 aircrafts, which includes Airbus A320-232 and Airbus A319-132.
Tiger Airways Destinations:
Tiger Airways serves many foreign destinations such as Bangalore, Chennai and Kochi in India and Guangzhou, Macau, Shenzhen, Xiamen and Haikou in China. In Indonesia, it covers destinations like Jakarta and Padang, while it connects to Kuala Lumpur, Kota, Kinabalu, Kuching, and Penang in Malaysia. In Thailand, it flies to Bangkok, Phuket Chuang Mai and some other places. Its network expands to Da Nang, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnama and Perth in Australia as well. At the domestic level, it serves all the major local destinations in Singapore.
