U.S Airways
US Airways is the fifth largest airline in the United States. It operates under US Airways Group. It is headquartered in Tempe, Arizona and became a member of the global Star Alliance in 2004.The airline merged with American West Airlines in 2005, but the joint entity continued to work under the brand name of US Airways.
US Airways has hubs in Charlotte, Philadelphia and phoenix. It also operates continuous flight operations at Ronald Reagan Washington DC, National Airport in Washington, McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, LaGuardia Airport in New York, and Logan International Airport in Boston. US Airways Express is its regional airline service, which is controlled by contract and subsidiary airline companies.
The company was re-named Allegheny Airlines in 1953. It was later on known as USAir in 1979, with the passing of Airline Deregulation Act, which permitted airlines to enlarge their route network. The company grown and joined an agreement with the Henson Airlines, which is regarded as the first code sharing agreement, also known as Interline Agreement, in the airline industry.
USAir extended its services to Europe, arranging flights to London, Paris and Frankfurt from its main hubs. It stepped into an agreement with British Airways which made a large investment in USAir, resulting in the formation of one of the pioneering transatlantic airline alliances. However, the partnership broke and finished in a legal battle in 1996. British Airways declared plans of a tie-up with the American Airways and USAir was renamed as US Airways. The airline launched Metro Jet subsidiary service to compete with the low cost carriers. It also returned to profit making by the 1990s.
U.S Airways Fleet:
US Airways maintains a huge fleet comprising of 345 twinjets including Airbus A319-100, Airbus A320-200, Airbus A321-200, Airbus A330-200, Airbus A330-300, Airbus A350-800, Airbus A350-900, Boeing 737-300, Boeing 737-400, Boeing 757-200, Boeing 767-200ER and Embraer 190. The airline has also placed orders for 153 more aircrafts. As of June 2009, US Airways had a fleet average age of 11.89 years.
U.S Airways Destinations: US Airways covers many international destinations which are France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K, Norway, Portugal and Manchester in Europe. It connects to Bermuda, Canada, Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, Brazil and almost the whole of U.S. Besides, it serves major cities in Asia as well. The airline also offers hourly service between Boston, New York, and Washington DC, through US Airways Shuttle.
